Middle ear infections, also known as otitis media, are the leading cause for hearing loss in children.

Otitis media is inflammation or infection located in the middle ear. Otitis media is very common and treatable - 3 out of 4 children will have it by the time they are three years old. Here are some symptoms to look for in your child:

• Unusual irritability
• Difficulty sleeping or staying asleep
• Tugging or pulling at one or both ears
• Fever, especially in infants and younger children
• Fluid draining from ear(s)
• Loss of balance
• Hearing difficulties
• Ear pain
